Course Description
Novice Rider Course 2 (NRC-2)
The Novice Rider Course 2 is the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s 9-hour course that enables those successfully completing it to receive their Washington motorcycle endorsement. It is designed specifically for riders who are:
- over 18 years old
- experienced with riding motorcycles, but have no endorsement
- or returning to riding after a break of several years, but have retained the riding skills and knowledge to successfuly complete the course.
Students will ride ESC bikes in this course (those returning to the sport without personal bikes will find this is a perfect class for them). Classroom instruction in street strategies and mental preparedness for safe motorcycling is combined with range exercises that cover cornering/swerving/stopping/hazard avoidance.
This course assumes that you have motorcycle riding experience. Be certain of your skill level before registering for this class. There are no refunds if a student is dismissed by the instructor for lacking the required riding skills. Please review the following requirements carefully:
- On the range, students must demonstrate their ability to balance the bike at slow speeds and coordinate clutch, throttle, braking, and shifting. This course does not teach these basic skills, which are taught in the Novice Rider Course .
- Students will be evaluated on the motorcycle during the first two exercises (shifting/stopping and control skills – offset weave/clutch control) to the satisfaction of the instructors. Any student who cannot successfully complete these exercises will not be allowed to continue with the class and will be advised to register for the Novice Rider Course. If this is the case, no refund will be issued and the student will be charged the full Novice Rider Course fee.
- Passing this course is the equivalent of passing the Washington State DOL Class 3 or “2-wheeled only” test for a motorcycle endorsement on your Washington Driver’s License. The endorsement fee must still be paid to the state.
Course fee is $150.
