About our Traffic Control Supervisor program

Take your career to the next level

If you have flagging or other work zone experience, you may be eligible to become a Traffic Control Supervisor. Gain in-depth knowledge of federal and state highway construction and traffic control standards, and learn how to supervise the safe implementation of traffic control plans in work zones.

What is a Traffic Control Technician?

Those who do not meet the Washington or Oregon requirements for becoming a Traffic Control Supervisor may still attend the training, and will receive a Traffic Control Technician card upon completion. TCT training is great for engineers, inspectors, and flaggers who want to better understand the standards, documents, and realities that come up in the field. Becoming a TCT also allows you to work alongside a TCS, understand what is expected of them, and gain the experience required to do that job. If you have earned your TCT card and you submit verification of required work experience when you attend our 1-day recertification class, you can earn your TCS certification at that time.

Can I earn my TCS certification online?

Oregon TCS certification classes are offered online. Washington does not allow online TCS training—all classes must be in person. We offer in-person WA TCS classes in locations around the state. Visit our registration page for details on upcoming classes.

FAQ/Support

Do I need a Driver License to operate a forklift?

No, you do not need a Driver License to operate a forklift, but you do have to be at least 18 years of age.

How do I get the hands-on forklift training after taking the online course?

Your employer can give you the practical training and evaluation you need in order to be certified.

What equipment requires formal forklift training?

Sit-down counterbalance, motorized hand trucks (pallet jacks), container top handlers, straddle carriers, side handlers, order pickers and tuggers all require forklift training.

How long does it take to complete the Online Forklift course?

It depends. Some students are able to complete it in as little as one hour.

Do I need a practical examination alongside the Online Forklift training?

After completing this course, you’ll receive a certificate of completed classroom training. Print this certificate and show it to your employer. Your employer will give you a practical evaluation on the forklift you will be using in the workplace, and document your certification in their records.

How long do I have to complete the Online Forklift Operator Course?

You can take as long as you need to complete the course materials and pass the exam. You can take it whenever is most convenient, and you have unlimited tries to pass the final exam.

When is retraining required for forklift operators?

Forklift operator retraining is required every 3 years. Retraining is required sooner if the operator fails the evaluation, uses unsafe behavior, or has an accident or near miss. The OSHA forklift code requires that all forklift operators be evaluated by the employer by operating the forklifts in the actual work environment.

What if the forklift operator already has experience?

Even experienced operators are required to successfully complete both knowledge training (such as our online course) and practical evaluation by their employer.

Who should complete forklift training?

Every person who operates a forklift must have documentation of training and evaluation.
